How fees are calculated
|
Insertion fee |
When you list an item on eBay, you may be charged a listing (or insertion) fee. If applicable, you're charged one insertion fee per listing, per category, regardless of the quantity of items. You will receive one insertion fee credit for each auction-style listing for which you paid an insertion fee if that listed item sells (exclusions apply).
All sellers get free-insertion-fee listings per month (restrictions and exclusions apply). |
Final value fee |
If the item or relisted item sells, you're charged a final value fee calculated on the total amount of the sale and are charged per item.
In this case, the "
total amount of the sale" is the final price of the item, shipping charges, and any other amounts you may charge the buyer. Sales tax is not included.
Even if the item does not sell, you're charged a final value fee if you offer or reference your contact information or ask a buyer for their contact information in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay. In this case, the final value fee is calculated on the "total amount of the sale" determined as follows:
If the item was listed in auction-style format, then the "total amount of the sale" is the auction start price, the Buy It Now price (if applicable), the Reserve price (if applicable), or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is highest. If the item was listed in a fixed price format, then the "total amount of the sale" is the fixed price or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is higher.

Advanced listing upgrade fees |
If you add advanced listing upgrades to your listing, fees apply. Not all listing upgrades are available with every listing tool. |
Supplemental service fees |
If you use supplemental services, charges associated with these services may be included on your seller invoice as fees. |
The selling format (auction-style or fixed price) and category you select determines fee amounts. Learn more about selecting a selling format.

* Good 'Til Cancelled listings renew automatically every 30 days until all of the items sell, you end the listing, or we end your listing. Insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees are charged every 30-day period. Good 'Til Cancelled listings count toward your monthly free-insertion-fee listing allotment. Fee amounts are based on the terms in effect when the listing goes live and when it renews.
† If your account doesn't meet our minimum performance standards for the US region at the time of a sale, your final value fees will increase by 4%. This additional final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale and is charged per item, and is in addition to any standard final value fees that are applicable. We will indicate which listings are subject to this additional fee on both the View Account Status page and your invoice. You can see if your seller level is Below Standard in the US region by going to your Seller Dashboard.
Fees may apply if you end your auction-style listing early.
Optional advanced listing upgrade fees
Fees are charged per listing or per category, if multiple categories are selected.
If you set up automatic relisting for your item, we charge insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees each time the item is relisted. If you're using Selling Manager automation rules, insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees also apply each time the item is relisted.

Promoted listings fees
Promoted listings fees are additional charges that apply to advertising your purchase through our promoted listings service. If you use promoted listings, you select a percentage between 1% and 20% of the final sale price of an item (excluding shipping charges and sales tax) that you'll pay for each item sold in a listing within 30 days of a click on your ad for that listing. If you change the percentage, you'll be charged the rate that you had set at the time the ad was clicked.
In addition to the advanced listing upgrades above, the following upgrades are specific just to auction-style listings.

Supplemental service fees
There are additional charges related to your selling activity that may apply. For example, you may incur charges for shipping labels printed on the eBay site, reimbursements to eBay for buyer refunds or charges associated with an eBay program you use, such as the Global Shipping Program. Depending on the charge, and at eBay's option, these charges may be included on your seller invoice, which may be charged to your automatic payment method on file, if any.
Examples of fee calculations
Auction-style listing, example 1
You're selling a lightly used hardcover book using a 7-day duration. You select a starting price of $2.00, with a shipping cost of $3.50. You've listed fewer than 50 items this month. You are meeting our minimum performance standards.
The winning bid for the book is $10.25, so the total amount of the sale is $13.75.
The final value fee is $1.38, or 10% of $13.75.
Your total fees for this item:

The item sells immediately for the Buy It Now price of $400. Since you aren't charging the buyer for shipping or any other costs, $400 is the total amount of the sale.

Other terms
Insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees apply to each listing you create, are charged at the time of listing or relisting, as applicable, and are nonrefundable. Fee amounts are based on the terms in effect when the listing goes live and when it renews. If you select more than one category for your listing, insertion and advanced listing upgrade fees apply for each category.
You will receive one insertion fee credit for each auction-style listing for which you paid an insertion fee if that listed item sells (exclusions apply).
Not all listing upgrades are available with every listing tool and not all advanced listing upgrades, when purchased, may be displayable across all our sites, services, applications, and tools.
We require payment in full each month on accounts with an amount due of $1 or more. If you haven't paid the amount due by the payment due date each month, late fees may apply. Learn more about payment requirements, due dates, and late fees.
We may limit the exposure of duplicate auction-style listings to encourage a positive buyer experience. If you list duplicate, identical auction-style listings, you'll be charged the full insertion fee and any fees for optional advanced listing upgrades for each listing even if a listing doesn't appear on eBay for the full duration of the listing. See the duplicate listings policy for more information.
Seller fees don't purchase exclusive rights to web pages on eBay. We may, in our sole discretion and without consent from or payment to sellers, display third-party advertisements (including links and references thereto) and listings from other sellers on any eBay web page.
When you submit your listing, it might not appear immediately in a keyword or category search. This can take up to 24 hours. Therefore, we can't guarantee exact listing durations.
Depending on the tax legislation of your country of residency, local Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST) or similar consumption tax might apply in addition to your eBay fees.
All fees are in US or Canadian dollars.
